Riding the Miniature Train!

Miniature Engine #105

The Conductors

Gosh, I am just now getting to finish this blog post months later! We took a trip to see the miniature train in Fort Worth and Lane absolutely loved it. Reecey enjoyed the ride as well and slept most of the time. Lane is all about trains these days.

November 2009 Post!

Hello Everyone! Here's an update on things at our house:
Lane is a very busy 21 month old. He is constantly saying new words and starting to put them together too. It's quite funny because he talks in his sleep and Jason and I will wake up in the middle of the night to him saying something like, "BIKE" or "CHEESE". He loves animals and he can say the names of most of them and tell you what they say too. Our favorite is when he does a growl for a bear. It's the cutest thing you've ever heard!
Some of his favorite toys include blocks, wooden puzzles, balls of any sort, plastic animal toys, he loves animal puppets, and he adores books. He will sit and read to himself out loud in baby babble. He loves outdoor toys too, when he's old enough to ride a bike I have a feeling that is all that he will want to do. He's not really a fan of the electonic toys that turn on or stuffed animals, although he loves his snoopy when he's grumpy. He also likes watching Elmo and Baby Einstein movies (for a limited amount of time while mommy makes dinner, of course! )
He is still in baby music classes every Saturday morning and he can now sing the dominant to tonic progression and I caught him singing a minor triad once too (for the musicians out there). He really enjoys listening to music and when his Suzuki CD ends at night he always asks for "more more".
We went to the State Fair of Texas and enjoyed our trip out there on the train, the fair food and seeing the animals in the petting zoo too. Lane almost ate a whole Fletcher's corny dog himself!
The big news here is that I am not 9 weeks pregnant with our second baby. He/she is due on June 25, 2010. So far everything is going well and I am not as sick as I was with Lane. A little nausea at night but nothing too bad. If I can make it through the first trimester I'll be much happier.
Work is the same for both Jason and me, which is good news! We are both thankful for our happy family and our good health as Thanksgiving approaches on Thursday. We wish everyone a happy holiday season. Please keep in touch!
Oh, and I almost forgot... You can view all 103 pictures from the past three months here:

Much overdue July post

Hello Friends and Family,
Well our sweet little bear is now a new animal. He is a full-blooded toddler and he is lovin' life. Some of his favorite things to do:
  • Bear "babble". He has complete conversations with himself, inflections in his voice and all!
  • He can now kick a soccer ball while running, I think he has a future in the sport thanks to his Uncle Will, who showed him how to play!
  • He loves to give hugs and kisses, real wet ones. But only when HE wants to.
  • His favorite things in the world are shoes. His shoes, our shoes, any shoes he sees. He likes to play with them, wear them, take them on and off, talk about them, and yes, even put them in his mouth. Our next pair are going to have shoelaces so he can't easily remove them. I can't tell you how many times a day I put shoes on him.
  • Other favorite words include dog (most animals are dogs, excepts cats, which are "gus"), duck, juice, door, hat, car, cheese, cracker, bath, bubble bubble (wash hands). And one phrase, go outside (sounds like go ow-sigh).
  • He loves to be outside playing at all times, which is really hard right now in this horrible Texas heat!
  • He can identify most body parts by touching them, head, hair, hand, foot, tummy, eye, mouth, ear, etc.
  • He loves to wrestle our 17 lb. cat Gus. If you know Gus I'm sure you are shocked by this, but yes, Gus let's him and actually purrs as Lane chases him, pins him on the ground and then crawls over him.

There are a million on silly little things I could tell you about. Jason and I try to capture each moment to memory because he is growing up SO fast.

Enjoy some pictures from Uncle Travis and (new) Aunt Julie's wedding in PA last weekend. We had a great time visiting with family.

April Update!

I hope you enjoyed the video, that's a typical Bear for you. He's busy and lots of fun, full of love.

Lane is growing so fast! He is officially in the toddler room at daycare now and is enjoying all of the new toys and his new teachers. He has to sit in a chair now and eat at little table with the other boys and girls. He also now sleeps on the floor on a mattress instead of in a crib. His transition has been very smooth and we have not had one biting incident report yet. I think he was ready for the big boy room!

His favorite thing to play with is his belly button and he also enjoys poking mommy's and daddy's belly buttons too. He loves his kitty cat Gus and when he can't find him he yells GUS! over and over again until he sees him. He really has the G and S sounds down now. It's neat to hear a word besides mama and dada. He mumbles and sings and does lots of other cute things, as you can see in the video.

Last weekend he went to his first music class with Daddy and really enjoyed it. They sang songs and danced and played with toys while they listened to music. We're planning on signing up for our first swimming lessons over the summer too.

I am eager to finish the school year, only a few more weeks to go! Daddy is busy at work, as usual. Nothing too exciting to report with Mommy and Daddy. More next month...

March Update!

Hi Bloggers!

March has been a great month. We're keeping busy here at Cakes Corp, as usual.
Lane is officially a toddler. Along with his first birthday came tantrums and biting. Yes, I did say biting. We have had three "incident" reports sent home from daycare because Lane has bit other babies! We've been told there have been fights over toys and Lane pulls out the big guns and uses his teeth. Apparently this is a very normal phase but it came sooner than we expected.
His daycare teachers do enjoy him a lot though (despite the previously mentioned incidents), they always have a cute story to relay to us in the AM and PM. He is quite an affectionate boy and is sure to give his teachers hugs when their shifts end.

I'm trying to read "The Happiest Toddler on the Block" as fast as I can. I didn't realize how tricky toddlers can be! He is "25 pounds of rage" when he want to be. (A Daddy quote)
The good news is he tries to say "Dog dog" and "Gus Gus" (our cat). His favorite thing to say, by far, is Da Da. He pretty much calls everything he likes Da Da but when he means his Daddy, he uses a different inflection, I promise!!

Saturday at the park he started being able to go from a seated position to standing all by himself. Up til this point he has needed something (a wall, piece of furniture, or a mom/dad leg) to help pull himself up. It makes it easier to go from sitting to walking or running.

We just love every minute with him, even the tantrums can be quite amusing. It's hard for us not to laugh. He's full of smiles almost all of the time. I just can't describe what a great feeling it is to have a little fat, smiling man running towards you, arms outstretched with a huge smile on his face, ready to give you a big hug. Jason and I are always commenting about how much we love this guy.

Jason is busy at work and recently got back from a trip to San Diego for three days. The funny part about it is that I grew up about five minutes away from where he was staying in Rancho Bernardo. How crazy is that? He loved the how beautiful it was there and was impressed with how health-conscious the menus are at restaurants. Now he has a different perspective on me and my healthy eating.

Jason also got to go on his car tour in February that I gave him for Christmas. He really enjoyed it, see the pictures below.

I'm keeping busy with work and running. I don't have any races planned right now but I'm keeping my running up. There is a pic below from the Make A Wish Foundation 5K I ran with running friends.

We made a visit to cousin Caleb at Children's Hospital and had a great time riding around with him in his wagon. It was lots of fun!

Blog Update: The Birthday Edition!

Getting ready for his guests to arrive.
Bear with Mr. Marty, one of the first to arrive. How appropriate, because Mr. Marty and Grandma Denae were the first to come see him at the hospital too!

Look at all this candy!

Cookie Monster pinata

Wow has Lane changed since his first meal back in July! He is now quite the connoisseur of table food. He is eating everything but particularly enjoys cheese, meat, fruit, veggies, you name it. He particularly enjoys sweet things and has begged for more upon tasting cookies. He may not look like me but now we know for sure that he has some of my DNA.

Lane is now "Bear", his nickname morphed with him as he grew. Daddy started calling him "Bear" and it has stuck. I don't even realized I'm calling him that anymore, it's just second nature.

Here are his stats: Height 29 3/4 " (between 25th and 50th percentile)
Weight 24 lbs. 3 oz. (between 50th and 70th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19" (90th percentile)

He is walking now. He took his first steps at 11 and a half months. He takes lots of falls but recovers quickly. He has many bruises on his head as a result but he's quite the tough guy. One of my favorite moments is having him walk towards me. He puts his hands in the air and walks like a little "drunk man", BIG smile on his face. He gives a big hug when he gets to you. It's the cutest thing you've ever seen.

He's got four teeth and one more coming in. The bottom two came in in October and November and his top left tooth came at the beginning of December. His other top front tooth is working it's way in now, it appeared in January.

Daycare is going great. He has quite the attachment to his teacher, Miss Kawther. She loves him a lot too, we couldn't be luckier. He has lots of little friends, all boys in his room right now. He is quite the social guy. One of his favorite activities is to steal the pacifiers from the smaller babies in infant seats. He takes them, walks away and plays with them but has no interest sucking on them. It's pretty funny (probably not for the other baby though!!)

He has a new favorite song. He's always loved Old MacDonald but I think it has been replaced with Kanye West Love Lock down. Yes, Daddy and him listen to Kanye in the AM on the way to daycare. No joke, Lane will DANCE to this song. He sits on the floor and moves his tummy back and forth. It is hysterical. We've been trying to get it on tape so we can post it but no luck so far. We'll keep trying.

His birthday party was a GREAT time. Almost all of the family and many close friends were there and he thoroughly enjoyed being passed from person to person. Thanks to all that attended and sent birthday wishes.

Jason and I are SO IN LOVE with this little guy. We must be the luckiest parents in the world to have our little bear.

Sending much love to all....
